I've read the Warrior series - they're very creative and good! If you like animals, especially cats, you will love them.
The Redwall books by Brian Jacques are lots of fun to read, too. Plenty of adventure and they are funny at times, too.
Nancy Drew books are awesome for mysteries. They were written quite a while ago but hold up well for modern kids. They're good mysteries.

Try the Sir John Fielding Mysteries by Bruce Alexander. The first book is called "Blind Justice" (and it has nothing to do with the now defunct ABC series).
The series is 10 or 11 books long. They all focus on a different murder, and the investigation of the murder. Some of them are really gruesome, like in "Murder in Grub Street"...
Happy reading!

Go to Amazon.com and search:
"Lost from Atlantis Book 1" - the sequel is coming in the next month or two, and book 3 is already written and will follow.
"Death by Murder David Lindsay" - you have to search that way or the title doesn't come up. There's a lot of sex and violence in that one but it's not gratuitous. There's part of a sequel to that one written but the release date is unknown.
and "Super Spaghetti."
They're all by David A. Lindsay.
They're free if you have Kindle Unlimited, and you can get a free trial of that - Google how.
If you don't have a Kindle you can get a free smartphone app from Google Play, or read it online - all free.

This is a non-fiction, but is a great story, warm, funny, and profound (she now writes for "Mademoiselle," I believe): "Expecting Adam," the year of her pregnancy and delivery of her son Adam, while completing her Ph.D. at Harvard.
"The Chronicles of Narnia," C. S. Lewis, and "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis.
"Hidden Camera," Zoran Zivkovic, light mystery that can get you to thinking.
"The Soulless One," Mark Prophet; somewhat a novel, very interesting.

oh my god. you HAVE to read the best series ever aka the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. this has action, romance! A thriller till the end. after twilight there is New Moon, and Eclipse. these are books that you won't put down until your done. it's basically about a vampire and a human girl falling in love. it's not typical sleep in coffins etc... it's pretty modern which is really cool !!!! i luv all these books!! visit the author's website. they are also making a movie about this book so it has to be good!
hope i helped!! :)
