Many of those women who are in college (myself included) are there because they are single with kids or newly divorced mothers who, after years of being at-home moms may find themselves needing to support themselves and their children on their own. Not having any job skills makes it extremely difficult to find work, esp. the type of work that one can support a family with. Thus, many women are going back to school to learn skills that are needed in today's job market. (You can't pay a mortgage payment and raise kids on a McDonald's salary.)
I don't think the ratio of women and men in college is dramatically different, but if you factor in single mothers and divorced women seeking job training (or retraining), I think you'll find that this is the reason why more women are in college right now than men.
I don't think men have to worry that they will become second class citizens.

I don't follow? Some men will choose to not go to college, just as some women will choose not to go as well. Just because there are more women in college does not mean that men will not continue to attend. Maybe more young boys are looking for work to gain material possessions such as nice cars, game systems, etc....etc....maybe they want their own place ( fleeing the nest so to speak), and the only way they can move out is to have a full time job, that leaves little time for school? I don't see how a woman attending college effects any guys ability to attend as well? Maybe we should impact a stronger education ethic on ALL our youth, instead of blaming one whole gender.

Men don't need a degree to earn money. The reason why so many men are being forced out of college is because of the feminized education system )-- isn't it any wonder why this is the most entreprenurial generation?? Men are creative and resourceful which probalby explains why the 90% of young entrepreneurs are men.

This could very easily happen. Men need to get their act together, get educated, and be better prepared to support a family. As more women become more independent men are going to be left behind. I do not think the realize it now, but it is going to happen - it is not cool to goof off in school, throw the opportunity for education away, and one day find out the only jobs available are as labors, that is, if businesses do not fill those jobs up with illegal immigrants. Then there will be no wrok remaining for uneducated men.

I'm a man. I went to college. Then, after graduating with my bachelors degree, I have had an absolute inability to get any kind of job besides manual labor.
These days, "everyone" goes to college. So a degree has become almost as insignificant as a high school diploma.

I think it's time people explored other alternatives to going to college. That's because there are so many people with degrees now that having one doesn't provide the career advantage it used to. Also, so many college students keep taking out student loans and graduate deeply in debt. That's no way to start a career. Those loans will take years to pay back and you'll never get rich if you keep owing money.

Going to college isn't necessarily a sign of success. Many top businessmen never went to college. Highly capable people can learn their lessons from real life, and get started with their career earlier in in life. To a certain perspective, schooling is about learning to follow instructions.

No. A second class citizen would have no job and be forced to be doled out an "allowance" from someone (like young children). If you have the legal and social freedom to make choices, such as education and career, you are not a second class citizen. It just means you are responsible for the choices you have made.

No, of course not. If somebody chooses not to attend college it does not mean they are second class citizens and they will not necessarily end up doing manual labor (unless they want to).

You might want to ask this question in the Relationships section. It sounds like you are being brow-beaten by a domineering wife. You should probably seek marriage counseling. Best of luck!
