Ultrasounds don't use radiation. They use sound waves. Hence the term ultra"sound".

I, so far have only had one ultrasound, and I'm almost 20 weeks along. The ultrasound was my "20 week" done at almost 19. My insurance said I will only have one the entire pregnancy, and I have some reallly great insurance. Sometimes they say that though, and later on in the pregnancy you will get one. I've notice that a lot of people with lower kinds of insurance than myself get more ultrasounds.
Good luck and congratulations!

There is nothing abnormal with the Dr requesting only 1 ultra sound during your pregnancy as long as everything feels and looks normal. Not all that many years ago, u/s were only given if the Dr thought there might be a problem. Hence, many of us didn't know the sex of the baby, it was a surprise! My oldest kids are 26 and 24 and I never had one. My youngest are 15 year old twins so i had 3 or 4 as precautionary medicine. Sometimes good old fashion medicine is the best thing. Just do as the Dr. says. Eat right, get regular exercise and don't stress over little things. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and beautiful baby.

Doctor is being precautious~~~~3 and a half months pregnant and you haven't had an ultarsound yet~~~don't worry about it..........one: it is used only to confirm a pregnancy, and two: if there is a problem and three:confirm the fetus is in the correct position in the uterus right before birth, which I had done.........#3 done- I had an sonogram on a Tuesday 3 weeks before my due date......I had my daughter on that Friday~~~so much for sonograms/ultrasounds~!!!

14 weeks is enormously lots a shot on the hours of darkness... it is going to be 50/50 at that element. sixteen weeks provides you with approximately seventy 5-80% accuracy. Gender decision in keeping with ultrasounds are actually not completely precise until eventually 18 weeks. you may get a great gamble, yet i could wait until eventually you have yet another ultrasound to substantiate.

Ohhhh NO NO NO NO NO
You have one at 6 weeks to measure and get your due date and to hear the heart beat.
Then you have one at 12 weeks to test for down syndrome! Then you generally have another around 18-20 weeks..... after that you normally don't as the baby is too hard to see then.
If I were you I would DEMAND for an ultrasound! I think you should probably get a second opinion!

Ultrasounds are totally safe during pregnancy. Not sure why your doctor is like that. I've had 5 and I'm 27 weeks and have had no problems. You could always change docs.

My doctor was that way (although he didn't say it was because of radiation, it was that the majority of insurances will only pay for one ultrasound unless there is a problem).
Its very standard to only have one ultrasound, around 18-20 weeks.

It depends on where you live. In Australia they do one at 12 weeks and then another one at 20 weeks. I've had 3 ultrasounds already. My 1st one was at 9 weeks as I thought I was losing the baby, 2nd one was at 12 weeks, 3rd one was at 19 weeks and I have to have another one at 32 weeks as I have a low placenta and they need to check if it has moved or not.

wow I got one as soon as I found out so they could do measurements and make sure there was only one baby.
then I went again at 20 weeks to make sure she was growing right and to determine the sex. Ill go for another one later in the pregnancy as well..
everyone I know has had 3 during pregnancy

In some offices that is standard. I only had one ultrasound at 20 weeks. They will do more if you have complications.
