become used to it and learn how to function on little sleep? Right now I function at 75% mode and that makes things difficult.

You won't get used to it. Period. You will start acting less and less normal (won't be able to think straight, really short attention span, etc) and you WOULD eventually die of a lack of sleep, except your body WILL eventually FORCE you to sleep. You can get by a few days with little sleep, but you can't live like that. Your body needs enough sleep to function. Here's an excerpt from an article I found pay attention to the last sentence:

* As you know if you have ever pulled an all-nighter, missing one night of sleep is not fatal. A person will generally be irritable during the next day and will either slow down (become tired easily) or will be totally wired because of adrenalin.

* If a person misses two nights of sleep, it gets worse. Concentration is difficult, and attention span falls by the wayside. Mistakes increase.

* After three days, a person will start to hallucinate and clear thinking is impossible. With continued wakefulness a person can lose grasp of reality. Rats forced to stay awake continuously will eventually die, proving that sleep is essential.

A person who gets just a few hours of sleep per night can experience many of the same problems over time.

Everyone is different. Both of your possibilities are very possible :]

Your crash mode will probably be severe migrains that will last just for a day. That's the most common i've seen, and even experienced.

As for the other thing where your body gets used to it, I think that will happen also.

I see it being very possible that both actions take place if your sleep schedule continues like that.

Soon or a later it will catch up to you. I've done the same thing over the summer break. When people say you need 8 Hours of sleep to operate the best, I really believe them. 6 hours in a period of 48 really isn't good for the body. And eventually you'll crash from being exhausted.

I believe it can be harmful not getting enough sleep. I can't function properly on just a few hours of sleep a night. I love getting my 7-8 hours sleep a night!

Martha Stuart sleeps about 4 hrs a night, but you (if your are a young adult/teenager) still need lots of sleep because you are still growing. Also sleep deprivation can cause young adults to crash much easier than adults, so i suggest trying to get a little more sleep, and function at about 90%.

almost the same thing is happening to me now
the thing is, if u keep this up your body will work like 10 times slower, ur reflexes slower, and your thinking slower.
eventually, if you sit still for even a moment u will feel your self drifing off to sleep. I recommend going to sleep, with out an alarm and just wake up when you wake up, so that your body is rested and relaxed.

otherwise, you'll drift off to sleep when u least expect it, and it may be in a bad situation ( like mine was, falling asleep in class, lol).

It depend on you age if you a kid you need 8 hours of sleep. But if you're a teenager you need 9 hours of sleep. Now you will eventually get used to it but i feel during weekends you will slepp longer.
