I'm 18 and want to get my first job at a clothing store. I'm wondering if employers tend to hire those with makeup on because I noticed that when i go shopping, most of the sales associates do have makeup on. I personally do not wear makeup and don't know how to do it well even if i tried-therefore, if i apply for a job, will i not get hired? (I look kinda young for an 18 yr old, which i think will be the main problem).

I'm thinking about applying to forever21 by the way.

No that's ridiculous.

Yes, because people in this society are judged primarily on looks. And if you're being hired for sales, appearances will especially count. Plus, since you look younger, makeup might make you look more mature.
Go to a makeup counter at a mall or something and ask an attendant to show you how to put on different products. That way you'll know how to put on makeup well and not look trashy or overdone, just polished, mature, and put-together.
Good luck! I've heard that Forever21 is a great place to work, by the way.

They like to hire people who are well groomed, and responsible.
As an 18 year old, I had a hard time getting jobs because I looked so young - so maybe go to a cosmetic counter in a large department store to learn about mascara, blush, and lip color. Those usually make the biggest difference to your look.
[ No obligation to buy, but you can; or go to the drugstore and buy some. ]
Also, wear earrings [ adult kind, not kids ].

as long as you have documents proving that you are 18, looking young for your age shouldn't affect anything in terms of employment. As for wearing make-up, i interviewed for Victoria's Secret (back when i was like 18), with two other girls who were both wearing make-up but i wasn't. I was the one hired out of the three. Chances are, as long as you can prove that you are willing to put your best effort in keeping the store clean, help business, etc., wearing make up should not and usually does not have an effect on you being hired. Focus on the other important stuff, like wearing clean clothes and making sure your application does not have any grammatical/spelling mistakes. :)

I don't think they wouldn't hire you because of not wearing make up, but wearing make up would certainly help, especially if you're working in a trendy clothing store.

You could just try a few basics first. Buy some mascara (I like Covergirl Volume Exact), eye liner (I like Covergirl Perfect Point Plus in Charcoal and Mabelline Unstoppable in Expresso), and a lip gloss with a little tint to it (Neutrogena Moisture Shine gloss is nice because it's not sticky... Revlon LipGlide is also one of my favorites).

I apply the eyeliner first by pulling the skin by the outer corner of my eye to flatten the eyelid out, and then draw a line across the bottom of the lid by the lashes. Then I just apply the mascara (just be careful not to get the wand in your eye cause that hurts... haha). I usually put a couple coats on (but only dip the wand in the container once for each eye), starting with the top lashes and then the bottom. Lip gloss is pretty self-explanitory.

Hope that helps!

I will assume you are a female.
If you aren't then I would not wear makeup.
If you are OK with your looks without it then give it a shot.
Maybe an explanation to the person interviewing you would be helpful.
What I notice most about females without makeup is their eyes. They seem to be smaller than if they wore makeup.
It's your choice, good luck.

I personally think it would help increase the chances of getting a job. maybe at just a teen clothing store it wouldn't matter as much.

not only does it make you look more mature, it shows that you put effort in yourself. it can be associated with work to. I mean like they may think to themselves..."if she puts this much effort into looking her best, I'm sure she will do her best at work to". you know?

anyways, IN CONCLUSION: it helps.
