My all-time favorite is "The Exorcist". Linda Blair was absolutely chilling in her portrayal of a young girl posessed by the devil. What made this even more spookier, is the fact that exorcism is still performed today, and in rare cases, even recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.
If you have never seen this movie, I would recommend it if you are interested in horror based on a ritual that is still around today.

Halloween
The original. I'm 36 and it still scares the bajeebies out of me.
I have not seen Rob Zombies remake, but I am trying to make a point of it.

1408 was a good movie, but it was really scary. As far as fright goes I'd have to say that Hellraiser frightened the crap outta me when I was a kid.
