When a person fakes their death and they are found to be alive is this considered criminal? What charges might they face?If their family went along with it what criminal charges might they face as well and if certain members of the police were involved in the city where the "death" took place, what charges could they be dinged with?

If you 'fake' your death, to gain some benefit for you or someone else...and by being 'dead' causes some entity to put out monies based on the fact you are 'dead'...it is fraud.

But if you put in a fake obit in the paper...go run away and hide...and never use that fake info, or a new 'identity' to defraud someone...you're fine.

they are both charged with fraud and usually have to serve jail time. this is because they probably collected insurance on the person's "death".
