no one knows and if they try to give you an answer, they're making it up.

but maryjanes got an original one.

its one of the great unknowns

this is what we DO know....... we can only see 46.5 billion light years in each direction.......... beyond that, we have no clue.

more than likely, WAY (trillions of light years) beyond that 46.5 billion light year visual barrier we have, there is only an empty void............ it might even be void of time and dimensions. meaning not just empty space, but a lack of existence............but that sounds like a guess to me too.

I have this question keep resurfacing in my head. When you think about it it doesn't quite make sense. Therefore, my theory is:

The law of gravity acts upon the universe as a whole, therefore making it so massive that it exists in all dimensions. Therefore, the universe would not keep going on, or go into nothing, but become like pac-man. You go into a door on one side of the universe, and come out on the other. Some kind of galactic wormhole shortcut that exists as a boundary outside of our universe. This wormhole surrounding us would be made of the 4 known properties of matter, the electromagnetic field, the gravitational field, the weak nuclear field and the strong nuclear field. This is what was believed to be contained in the super-dense ball of matter (the universe before the big bang). Somehow, this equates to pac-man, and so many other arcade games.
What about the big crunch? Scientists are now proposing that
the universe will collapse into the super-dense ball it began as. BUT that will only happen if the critical density of the universe is larger than the absolute density of the universe (or vice-versa, I forget). THEN maybe the outside of the universe is undefined (I know, back to algebra!).

Either that, or heaven exits outside......
......but we'll just have to wait and see about that one!

there are 2 perceptual 9or in line with risk conceptual) aspects to enlargement. as an occasion, while water is heated, it expands, at last boiling. in case you communicate a element of that water mass, the enlargement manifests as distancing of the guy molecules from one yet another. the region or exchange of floor configuration is beside the point. So, the info shows that the parts in the observable element of area are shifting away, distancing themselves. this is not considerable notwithstanding if there's a floor or not. that's unimportant to the question of the community section being seen, the place enlargement is unquestionably manifesting. The universe is an unbounded gadget, to the quantity that all of us comprehend. you're turning out to be hung up on the concern of "the place does the enlargement flow", yet this has no which potential. that's like asserting I actual have infinity, and multiply it by potential of a extensive style. the effect continues to be infinity. there is often greater, no rely the place you seem. what's the main important extensive style? there is not one, yet we are in a place to multiply numbers and get greater effective numbers. How ought to that be? there is not any floor?

There isn't necessarily a boundary, the universe isn't necessarily considered a piece of mass either. Unfortunately, our human brains aren't complex enough to understand, comprehend, and answer that question.

You should look more into string theory. Check out "The Elegant Universe." I've watched all three NOVA episodes based on this book, and it's mind-boggling, yet I feel like I understand it more than I used to...

I am hoping that heaven is outside the boundaries. Surely the universe is infinite though? Looks like I have a new topic to study.

Although, scientifically, no one has proven what is on the outside boundaries of the universe, I believe that there is a sea of universes outside, as abundant as the galaxies in this universe.

there is something that is expanding the universe known as "dark energy"
dark matter makes up a lot of mass in our universe but because light cannot detect it, it is known as "dark" matter
we don't know the energy expanding the universe and have no understandstanding of it

i think about sometimes. space is supposed to go on forever, but thats impossible. there has to be some sort of boundaries, but what are beyond that? its all so confusing!!!

the 4th dimension, human brains work in the 3rd dimension rather like that episode of the simpsons who are in 2d and homer gets trapped in the 3rd dimension and cant comprehend 3d.likewise humans cant comprehend 4d

If I knew the answer to that, I'd probably earn a Nobel Prize.
