My youngest son (15 y/o) bought me a beautiful Hurricane lamp for Christmas in 1987 & in less than two weeks later, he died. That lamp means so very much to me & I will forever cherish it. That lamp brought me so much happiness when I unwrapped it on Christmas Day & it still brings me a lot of happiness each time I look at it.

My husband buys me porcelain flowers because I will kill any plant any one gives me in less than two weeks. They are beautiful.
Also I worked with a lady that moved to the U. S. from China for a few months. She did not speak much English and we talked quite often at work. I explained a lot of things about Southern American life and lingo. When I left the job she presented me with two lovely grasshoppers made of ribbon and brass wire. I know that they must have been tedious and time consuming to make and I will cherish them always. I purchased a perfect Asian looking glass and wood case from eBay to keep them in. No one that I have known in such a short amount of time has done something so nice for me.

Whenever anyone gives me something they made for me, I treasure it. I figure that they must have thought of me while planning or actually making the item. They devoted their valuable time into planning and making the item. If it is the THOUGHT THAT COUNTS in gifting, a personally crafted gift is a gift of a part of oneself. Sooo, those gifts have lasting memories.

It sits on a glass shelf in my family room/den. And it is in a glass case. Two ceramic "shi-shi" (lion dolls) from Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. It was my departure gift in 1979 and was paid for by the six Japanese civilian employees in my department. About two years later a guest at my home spotted them and asked if a friend of his could come by and assess their worth. That expert assessor found that they had been made by an artisan who was designated as a National Treasure in ceramic art by the Japanese Ministry of Culture.
It was if my six employees had popped out to the shop and bought a painting by Da Vinci. I will never know how much they paid. But, it reminds me of how much they must have thought of me.

I have a Cinderella watch that my Dad bought me when I was about 10. I remember Christmas morning, Dad taking it from the night stand and handing it to be. It was inside a glass slipper. I have lost the glass slipper along the way. The watch will always hold special memories.

My husband surprised me with a beautiful Seiko watch that he knew I liked for our 20th wedding anniversary. It was the nicest gift he ever gave me, not counting the engagement ring, of course. It has never needed any repairs and it is still a treasure to me thirty years later. This Thanksgiving would have been our 50th anniversary.

My mother (she's still alive) gave me her set of crystal wine and water glasses. And she also gave me her old wedding and engagement rings. One had a platium band. I had the Diamonds re-set into a more modern ring, and I wear it every day. And I am one who is really not crazy about Diamonds
