Actually, no, Oscar is not a grouch because of his living conditions. He actually loves trash, which is why he lives in the trash can. He has a quite popular song out called "I Love Trash". Also, he is a little grouchy, but the Grouch in Oscar the Grouch actually refers to the name of his species.

Sorry to tell you this, but Oscar loves trash. He was always singing about that. I think he was a grouch because of the nice people around him. Kind of reminds me of Y!A. Nice people aren't liked too much here, either.

Oh yea could you imagine living in a garbage can? Getting nothing but trash thrown at you all day long? I am pretty easy going but I think that would get me moving. I don't know why he stayed! I would have been moving out years ago!

initially i said yes, but this is like the chicken or the egg question, could he being grouchy lead to his trashcan of a house, or did growing up that way make him a grouchy person... it doesnt matter because the grouchiness exists today and we should try to get rid of it, thats all that should be said
