you will probably need an adaptor.
DVI-D to VGA, it should be included with your video card but if it wasn't don't panic you can get it online, or from a computer store.

You'll be able to use your old monitor without a problem, as most computers and video cards still have a VGA connector (the 15-pin connector that your monitor uses).
If your budget permits, you might be better off buying a new one, resolution, view angle and refresh rate are ENORMOUSLY better now than 5 years ago, and prices have dropped so much, that you can pick up a large and very decent LCD screen for less than $200.
You'll enjoy more your games, your eyes won't be as strained (so you'll be able to play longer) and you'll help the environment, as newer LCDs are much more energy efficient.

Easiest way would be to get another monitor to connect to it. You might be able to borrow one from a friend, or you might be able to find one for free on Craigslist. If you just need it temporarily, then just any old 15" monitor would do. CRT monitors are always being listed on Craigslist as people replace them with flat-panel monitors which they think are better. As a result, you can easily find one in your area for free, even nice ones. You could also remove the hard drive of the computer and either connect it to another computer with IDE (PATA) interface, or purchase a IDE external hard drive enclosure of for appropriate disk size.

If the new one is an LCD then the savings on your electrical bill may offset the cost of the new one , not to mention the picture will be better . You can still use the old monitor if you feel like saving the money......

If the monitor works you should be ok. But monitors have grown since then so for now use the old and buy a new one when you can. It will enhance the experience for sure.

It will work, for now. Best to get an 8800gt, as it will handle the new dx10 games and is much faster, a 600watt psu, and an lcd monitor with 2ms response, considering you are a gamer!

So long as the computer has an analog plug for your monitor, you'll be alright. The new digital monitors have a different plug, so if your video card has that, you will need an adapter.

...the real question is- do you really want to?
screens are the exact same as computers today- the quality is high and the price is relatively cheap.
shell out another 250 bucks and get a great screen, it will be worth it- easier on the eyes, better for games, movies, any type of media.

Yes, it will work just fine. Unless you are into graphics or want top of the line definition you should be ok. If you'll use it mostly for the internet you wont notice much difference.
