Would suggest a good starting point would be to research, Thomas Szasz.
It may give you a different prospective, of "abnormal human behavior".
Another thought would be "chemically induced schizophrenia", as in alcoholism/Drug addiction. Specifically how chemical imbalance effect brain function, and causes mental illness. Have fun this is fascinating, an may be the specialty you choose.

I just did a research paper in my abnormal psych class on the topic of psychopaths....fascinating stuff! If you do happen to choose this subject, let me suggest the best book ever (in my opinion, as well as my psych professor's opinion) on the subject: "Mask of Sanity" by Hervey Cleckley. Also, you might want to check out books written by Hare.

Munchausen syndrome or Munchhausen by proxy is also quite interesting. I think schizophrenia is interesting, too.

Good luck!

How about Borderline personality disorder- ought to be interesting enough. Or the ever increasing number of sociapaths.

I think narcissism, sociopathy, masochism, and self-injurious behavior are all interesting.
