It's only illegal to remove the tag until the mattress has been delivered to the consumer. The reason for this, is so the consumer is aware of what the mattress was made of....if you read the tag, it will tell you all of this,

It is illegal for the manufacture to remove the tag because they are required to identify the materials (kind of like the label on the can of soup, it has to be there). However the person who buys it can rip it off, without police raiding your home and taking you to jail.

NO, its illegal for the store to remove the tag, but as a consumer you can remove the tag and not worry....

lol.....I thought that too. You can remove it yourself without fear of the swat team busting in. That tag is only for the retailers. They are the ones who will do life in the pokey for ripping it off.
