It really depends on the phone lines. I was in the Bahamas, in the middle of nowhere, and the line quality was so poor I couldn't get past a 4k connection to the internet. We are talkin a half hour to load a home page. So, I got satellite internet, and it was an amazing difference. However, it is also weather dependant, and even more so than satellite tv. Consider that you are using a 5 watt microwave transmitter, to send a signal 26,000 miles. Line of sight, perfect aim, and no atmospheric disturbances are required to even connect.
In light of that, the satellite is a good system, but keep the dialup for when the satellite internet is down, from weather or whatever. Also, bear in mind that those systems are extremely sensitive to static discharge, from a lightning strike any where even near the dish or transceiver. I had to replace the modem three times in one year. Twice from lightning strikes nearby, and once from power surge. Bahamas Power Company sucks. As does Batelco.
Just a heads up, having been there and done that with sat internet, and good luck!
