Hi. My name is Amanda. I was born and raised in Colorado. I have a lot of friends at school and I'm a popular girl in school. As for my looks, I'm pretty. The thing is though, I'm Lebanese. I also have Mexican in my blood. I don't wear a scarf though.

But, sometimes some kids will tease me. I don't like it though, when people make fun of my religion and say the worst things about it. Because, in reality, it's a very peacful religion. You only hear about the bad cases. I get teased in school saying that the men are (supposedly) allowed to beat on the girls. NO! That's not true whatsoever. God punishes men who do this. If girls get raped, God punished the guy who did this. And they ask me if Arabic people believe in Jesus. Yes, we do. We love Jesus. He's one of our prophets. There are good and bad in every religion. All 3 religions are alike. I just don't want people sterotyping me. You know?

And I'm not ashamed to be Muslim, I'm just angry people have these ridiculous assumptions

Can you please help me out and give me your honest opinion?

Oh, and in every Arabic country, there are different rules. You know? Like there are a lot of Lebanese that don't wear scarfs, but there are a lot that do. You know? Things like that ..

You should never ever be ashamed of your religion. And the kids who are teasing you and asking rude, stupid, insensitive questions are the ones with the problem. They are below your notice. Keep your head held high and don't make excuses. Be proud of what you are.

Amanda, like you asked in your previous question, the beauty of living in a democratic country is the freedom we enjoy to be who we are. Those who tease you (or more appropriately bully you) are only showing their level of immaturity. Some people hate because they don't know any better, others hate because they refuse to learn about things they don't understand. That scares them. I'm Christina but I have had many Muslim friends who have been kind enough to tell me about their religion. The sick people responsible for all the carnage today are not true Muslims, and you know that as well as I do. Every religion teaches a golden rule. How it is interpreted is up to the people. Jesus tells us to 'turn the other cheek.' And in cases like your school mates..that is a good lesson. Be proud of who you are, never change because someone else thinks you should. Be yourself.

i get u completly, but there alot of labanees who are christians actually i know many of them.
im an atheist but even i get angry when people generalise all muslims to be violant and all, its all about lack of knowledge.
why do u have to discuss ur religion and country of origin with others? its a personal thing and should not be discussed,if anyone teases u in school about this report them to the principle coz this is a serios issue of racisim and should not be tolarated once ull stand up for urself it will stop.

Why are you ashamed?

You have nothing to be ashamed of.

You obviously have your head on straight, and your heart is in the right place.

I live in the South, of the U.S.A., so I'm familiar with assumptions and sterotypes. They're almost always wrong too!

Hold your head high, never show shame or regret and celebrate in the beauty of your religion!

ah i know what your going through, its a shame. sometimes you just gotta push yourself higher than those other people and oh yes those people are RACIST!! you gotta admit that. tell someone, thats a good start coming here.talk about it, dont complain but just talk about it.
dont retaliate whatever you do, thats just what they want so what you have to do is either ignore or just give them an answer that they dont want.
but if you are popular why do the people tease you? cause if you are popular then you demand respect, so use popularness to your advantage, dont stand for that.

Unfortunately it's a shame that we live in a world of ignorance... people just can't accept other peoples differences. It's good that you are proud of who you are... keep it that way, keep peace amongst yourself and others, and ignore the a**holes. If it get's violent (I sure hope not), report to an authority immediately.
