Dear, I think there is just too much disrespect for all people of all ages. Egos are phony. At my age, I'm not coloring my hair nor do anything special about my 'looks'. Why spend that $$ when everything is going to 'slip' down hill anyway? It's just ego. People should be their real selves.
My graying hair tells people I've lived a good while, know something about life and am not so 'perfect' that I can't laugh, be kind nor sensible. Best wishes.

What do I think of today's culture? Not much.
No, there is not much respect for anyone, regardless of age. With all too many people nowadays, especially the young ones, it is all about their rights, and no concern for those of anyone else.
I never have been one to be concerned about my appearance. I take a bath, wash my hair, comb it, put on my clothes. That's about it.
And frankly I don't think the respect thing is all about being young and beautiful. I think a lot of the problem stems from all the concern about children not having enough self esteem, having their creativity destroyed by an education system that insists on "standards." And possibly being abused by someone who believes in "discipline."
I do volunteer work with children and teenagers, mostly teaching them computers, and it is hard to get volunteers nowadays. Never has been easy, but now it has become worse because the children are so badly misbehaved and people are afraid of being acused of accused of abuse if they attempt any discipline.
But this is what it has come to. These children are used to being coddled and praised and think that just everything they do is just the greatest thing; and, if you say it is not, that it is not up to par, they are suprised and think they are being abused to say the least, if they hear you at all because they probably don't because they tune everything out except themselves.
OTOH I feel sorry for them because a lot of them are exposed to thing that they shouldn't be under the guise of "free speech" when what it is is commerce and a business community that has figured out that you can sell that age group anything as long as you can convince them that it is "cool" which isn't hard to do, much easier to do that than try to sell something to cagey old codgers like us who know the value of a dollar and insist on value for our money.

Not sure about the plastic surgery and those shot things to make lips big. but I think that a lot of the baby boomers had it a lot easier then are great grandmother did....Most of us did not have to work as hard did not have 13 + children and have aged a lot easier then are grandparents and we do not show are age as much..... I think the younger generation may not know are age to look at us.........I know the last time I was in a big city I was on a bus and the high school students did not offer me a seat and I felt sad that I had to stand......but when a lady got on with grey hair and looked older she was given a place to sit.......So, maybe it is because we Baby Boomers do not look are age.......

if you are talking about culture i tend to think it is where you live -- i live in middle america made up of small towns -- yes we have some problems with the certain disrespect toward seniors but those folks do not even respect themselves so i just write them off -- most of the rest of the young folks and i do have some that volunteer to help in my free petting zoo really are nice to seniors== as far as going under the knife i have nothing to say on that subject!!!

Going under the knife for cosmetic purposes is nothing more than denying to yourself what your friends already know about you. Going under the the knife for medical reasons is to give those same friends more time to talk about your attempts to deny your age. In any event, respect is usually earned. I don't know that culture has anything to do with it. I don't mind being corrected if I'm wrong about that.

It is due to ill-mannered children being grown now. They have passed an unlit torch to theirs....No one cares nowadays. It is fact and there can be no denying it.
