Want to get them to stop? This is what you do.
Pick up the phone and start conversation:
(enter your county's name here) Morgue how may I help you?
BC: Uhhh is there a Ms. so and so there
You: Hold on sir or maam let me check for you.
Put the phone down and ruffle some papers next to the phone.
Pick phone back up:
You: No there appears to be no one by this name here. If there was they sure wouldn't be talking.
You should hear the phone hang up by this point and they may call back just to make sure. Write down the number so you can answer the phone the same way next time. Calls should stop.
Sit back and laugh while enjoying a glass of your favorite drink.
Well someone needs help spotting a joke when they see one. You would have been laughing if you heard your friend do it. That was the funniest thing I have ever heard.

So basically, it's not your debt and they're calling and annoying you looking for someone who doesn't live there? Be courteous and discuss the situation with them at great legnth whenever they call. Be sure to talk to them as long as possible. Toward the end of each conversation you might casually ask how much they're spending to talk you about a debt you will never, ever pay. After a while they'll get the point.

If they are really saying that, then they are breaking the law, and they should be reported. That's a death threat...call the cops. Bill collectors can call you at home between 8am and 9pm, but they can not threaten you in any way.

If people paid their bills, the bill collectors would be out of a job. That's the best way to get rid of the nasty phone calls: PAY YOUR BILLS.

A bill collector has the right to call you unless you notify them in writing not to call. It is not considered harassment.
No bill collector is going to threaten to put a bomb in your house.
You can read the law here: http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/

I've never heard of a bill collector threatening to bomb anyones house. If you have been threatened that way you need to call and report it!

If you ask them to not call they have to obey. If they don't you can sue. (Problem is you don't have any money to sue! Tough luck.)
If you don't tell them not to call again they can and they will.
Legitimate bill collectors don't threaten violence, they are just paid workers and could care less. You must owe money to the mob or something.

No they do not have the right to harrass or threaten you on the phone. If they do I think you can report them to someone but I am not sure who.

Check your city Government for whats called a "NO CALL LIST" if they have one (most do) then sign up... If all else fails, answer the phone in another language to throw them off... Have fun with it.
