Absolutly, Yes! Please run security software on each system you have networked or one the one if you have only one hooked up.
The firewall in the router is considered a hardware firewall, and you can run software security on each system in addition to that without concern for incompatibility.
Many individual's are blissfully unaware how much malware is inundating the security labs. One lab gets over 4,000 new peices of malware daily.
Malware writer's are no longer in this for the fame, but rather for gain now. They know that security Vendor's are not able to handle large loads of new malware daily, so one of their three pronged attack is to flood the Internet community with more malware than they can concievably handle, which means a lot is going to get through.
We, as User's can help by keeping strong security software installed and properly updated on each of our computers, and doing Best Practices in how we use the Internet.
I won't go on more, there is a lot of information on this subject on the net for all to find and read at their leasure.
Good luck and much success with your computing and please have a very happy holiday season.

You should always have anti virus on any computer whether its connected to a router or not. The router just acts as a gate way to the Internet. It DOES NOT act as a virus protector. You should also have spy-ware to witch prevents identity theft. Virus protectors can be downloaded from many websites for free.

Yes you need antivirus and a firewall, most modern programs come with antivirus, firewall, spywear detector, email scanner, pop up blocker, IM scanner and real time protection
but what ever you decide to install on your computer you do need at least an antispywear program and a firewall, this is because the router has a basic inbuilt firewall that allows it to block traffic to all other ports but the one intended however, the intended port is still at risk and so you need either hardware based or program based firewalls and antivurus to deal with any threats that get through

you need to connect the immediate router on your abode community. this might encompass your computer(s), your cable modem, and can probable additionally fucntion simply by fact the gadget that hyperlinks them. The router won't replace the modem. The wirless router takes wirless information from the 'air' and gets it into the 'under pressure out' community. It then 'routes' (for this reason that catchy 'router' call) the information the place it needs to flow... even though if it is on your printer (it is linked to the community), yet another computer, or the internetz. The modem needs to talk alongside with your cable organisation with the intention to get the sign into some thing your computer can use. you will ought to have the modem. mutually as immediate technologies is particularly in the back of under pressure out as far as velocity is in contact, in case you're procuring a sparkling (and not used or previous) style then you definately maximum in all possibility won't observe a distinction except you get countless (like 5+) immediate desktops working downloads on the comparable time. the element to bear in mind approximately velocity is that your internet connection (except you reside able that has fiber) is AT maximum approximately 5 meg per 2nd. New immediate routers function at approximately fifty 4 meg per 2nd, and your good previous blue/green community cable is going at one hundred (even one thousand in some greater modern desktops) meg per 2nd. In different words in the experience that your connection is sluggish it is maximum in all possibility your internet, no longer something with you. As to the PSP question, i haven't configured a router for a gaming gadget, yet immediate networking is immediate networking. Sony may be stupid to make a gadget that basically works off of a particular 'form' of immediate. i assume you would be high-quality, in spite of the shown fact that they might have a properly-liked style (for setup reasons) i might basically examine the internet and notice on that one.

Yes. Routers can protect you from certain kinds of invasions, but not others. An anti-virus, along with an anti-spyware and an anti-adware, are necessary tools these days.
Many people swear by AVG anti-virus, and I recommend Ad-
Aware SE and Spybot S&D (both free).
I suggest you download them, install them, update them and run them weekly.
Hope that helps.

Heck YES!
You don't have to have a software firewall if your router is using NAT(Network Address Translation).
AVG 7.5, google it and it is free and works. get Windows defender for spyware too(from microsoft download center, freeeee)

I don't think so, unless you are using some kind of shareware or other program that puts you at risk. I don't have any anti-virus installed on my laptop, and I have had no problems
