Alcohol is far worse. Alcohol has ruined more lives then all the drugs and tobacco combined. Sit in at an AA meeting sometime if you ever get a chance. You will see people from all walks of life clinging to each other for sanity and sobriety. Each having their own horror story, yet all frighteningly the same. The broken families, car wrecks, lost jobs, lost lives. The addiction is horrible. The effects of long term abuse is death. That is providing you get a chance to abuse it long term, we have to remember your chances of dieing in a car wreck or accident greatly increase as well as the odds of suicide, STD's and usage of other drugs. Of course we do have people who drink in moderation and live happy normal lives. Some people are pre-wired where this is not an option. Some people drink normally for many years, then develop alcoholism. For the alcoholic the end is always the same. They find sobriety or death befalls them. I hope this helps, I was not trying to go overboard with this, but this is the grim reality of alcohol.

Even very small amounts of tobacco are detrimental to your health, whereas small amounts of alcohol can actually improve health. If you are talking chain smoking vs. heavy drinking, then just talk to any doctor or nurse that works trauma. Just about everything that comes in is alcohol related. Drunks and cars don't mix. As a financial expenditure for society, I would say alcohol. More people die an early death from smoking, but by then they are unproductive.

Rationally, does it really matter, as both can be LETHAL if use is abused..
So why worry about, which can be more LETHAL, if use is abused.
Tobacco is a prime cause of Cancer to user & non-smoker, smoke inhaler.
Alcohol Abuse, is major cause of violence, motor vehicle Fatality Crash.
Either way, death and/or injury arrising.
So why worry about which is worse.

I agree with Irish, but i know that tobacco is the leading cause of death in lung cancer. and when you drink alcohol your liver instantly starts bleeding and your body makes a temporary skin to cover it, but more alcohol just keeps taring the skin down. Your choice bud.

Tobacco causes more problems and death. Alcohol causes more injuries. Either way you lose. They are both the two worst you can put in your body.

Jeez, Jethro, you're killing me here... At least, when I drink, I am not requiring everyone in the room to drink with me, unlike cigarettes... I do not advocate drinking then driving, of course. But if the laws were a little different, there are a lot of people who would not drink at all... Isn't it ironic that alcohol is legal, and marijuana is not ??? OMHO, of course...

I would say alcohol is worse because when people drink they smoke more, not the other way around.

I really tried to not answer this question, or at least wait until my anger subsided.
Alcohol, of course, it is the most detrimental drug know to man. Meth kill quickly. The impact that alcohol has on the lives, and mental health of those that use it cannot even be calculated. We want even mention those who's live are impacted by the user.
Now for those of you that want to demonize, those of us that smoke. I must apologize to you, for causing the hole in the ozone, and making acid rain, and global warming. It is such a shame that my mind would tell me that exhaust from your cars, airplanes, and factory's, are the major cause of lung disease.
Again, I feel I must apologize for not accepting the propaganda. and would request you stand behind a motorcycle for a few minutes, and see how your lungs feel.
