Banning it does not eliminate it. Every major city in the world has prostitution, whether there are laws against it or not, whether those laws are strict or not, and whether those laws are strictly enforced or not. It is the oldest profession, and cannot be totally eliminated as long as human nature is what it is, but if you want to cut down on the "badness" of it, you could regulate it heavily. Make it a law that prostitute houses must be licensed, prostitutes examined medically every few months, prostitution only allowed in licensed houses in certain zoned areas, prostitutes must be over 21 years old, pass drug screens, pay income taxes, customers of prostitutes must go to licensed houses or face confiscation of their vehicles and drivers licenses, no prostitution advertising, no prostitution places masquerading as massage parlors or anything else, etc. etc.

Banning it will do nothing unless it is strictly enforced by the government and law enforcement officials.
It is too big of a problem for one country to ban it and have it be done with. The whole world needs to come together in order to successfully stop it, and since it is such an economy boost in poor parts of the world, I doubt that would ever happen.

There is nothing wrong with the sex trade except for one thing. Pimps. If a woman wants to sell her body the decision should be hers and hers alone. There are many ways of helping them and cleaning up the mess that its in now. One solution would be to legalise massage parlours, give them a license and have the girls medically inspected on a regular to prevent the spread of aids. This would also get rid of the filthy pimps who live on the misery of these women. These are the parasites who should be tried and if convicted, jailed for a long time,

I am against prostitution because it's exploitation. But if it were to become lawful, it needs to be done like it is in Nevada. Prostitues undergo monthly health checks and receive shots. Kind of takes the excitement out of, doesn't it?

The laws will chase it underground.
That's what usually happens.
