It seems that every time someone has an unplanned pregnancy, there are just dozens of people out there referring to the baby as "mistake". Why do people call babies mistakes? These babies will eventually grow up to be people, just like anyone else! The baby will not be any less important than a planned baby! So why do people call babies mistakes?

I know, it's not right. I think they use that as a defense mechanism from being looked down upon in society. That's why their kids turn out with low self-esteem & bad behavior problems. My mom did it to me & my twin. She considered it a mistake because she KNEW she cheated on her husband, & so she felt guilty & tried to kill us inside the womb & shortly after birth. That's how & why me & my twin sister ended up in foster care, & now we have mental & social problems. I've had low self-esteem all my life.

They call them mistakes, as you said in your question, because of the unplanned pregnancy. The two people obviously did not expect to have a baby, and wham! the woman is pregnant. It was essentially a mistake for the people to have sex , so the baby that came out of that is a mistake.

Also, it's funny, parents of these 'mistake' often say that the child is the best thing that ever happened to them. A mistake they don't regret.

I have dozens of friends who are 'mistakes' and don't function any different than a planned pregnancy child. It doesn't matter at all, as long as the person is alive and well at the moment.

You're right, but sometimes people don't mean it in a bad way. I read here on YA someone writing about their father not wanting kids and the mother's birth control not working. The person said they were the 4th "mistake" and that the father was glad for every one of them. I thought it was so sweet the way they were all called "mistakes" in a happy way.

IDK-thats just rude. Im pregnant now and it wasnt planned, but i say it was a suprise, not a mistake. I had other plans, but o well, guess my plans have to change. Babies are good news no matter what the circumstances.

My 22 years old son was a true *math mistake". My husband and I were sure about wanting another baby but not so soon after the first one. We, including our own son, still make fun about
"being a Math mistake".

Light up!!, don't take life so serious, I bet that, like us, most people are just "joking" about it.

They are not referring the *baby* her/himself as a mistake - they are referring to the *pregnancy*, to the *getting pregnant* as a mistake, since getting pregnant was both accidental and unwanted.

they are confusing their choices of action with the results of their actions. the choice of having unprotected/premarital (whatever u wanna call it) sex and getting pregnant is the mistake. the result of their action, the baby, is not a mistake..more of an unplanned blessing

b/c ppl look at having a baby a terrible thing...when its the fornication that is the terrible. there should be no shame in having a baby..intentional or unplanned...its a blessing. some ppl are walking around wishing they could have children. ppl just don't appreciate their blessing

A lot of people don't like taking responsibility.

I think they meant it wasn't planned in advance, though.
