When we start using/controlling the oil, I'll start to be a believer. At the moment, I'm paying $3.17 per gallon. I think it's about double what the price was when the war started.

Some of them cannot imagine that their government would ever lie to them, even though politicians are obviously not be trusted, once they become president they can do no wrong.
There is a misconception that the intention was to steal the oil for the American people, where in reality the first act was to turn the oil supply off, thereby increasing oil prices worldwide, and making oil corporations profits go through the roof. It was only then that the oil contracts were forced on to the Iraqi government.

Why is it hard for Republican haters to understand it's not?
I am Republican, and do believe that Bush was misinformed about Iraq and the WMDs, which is the real reason we are there. It had nothing to do with oil. I support our troops, as all Americans should be doing.
Attacking Afghanistan to kill Al-Quaida was the right thing to do, though, but Afghanistan is rarely talked about on the news or even here on YA.

Those who need to understand it certainly do. I'm sure Dick Cheney understands that it is primarily about oil. As for the rest of the population, they don't want people to know that the war is about oil because then they might not support it. So it has to be about stopping terrorism, or overthrowing a dictator, or spreading democracy, or some other blatant lie.

If the US was just thinking about oil, we would have attacked a nation that has greater supply, greater potental for more oil, and most likely a country that has a greater amount of ocean "property" because that again ads more potental for large oil beds. Oil was not a major issue when attacking. But only high ranking officials no the truth.

how is it hard to understand? i'm republican and i know good and well Bush was raised in the oilfield and thats exactly what this is about, but 9/11 brought it to us and if a democrat had been elected at that point in time none of us would be here right now because they'd have just rolled over and took it instead of seizing the opportunity to try to nip it in the bud and take a little oil as extra for interest.

Iraq isn't about oil.
If we could drill in our own country, there would be no discussion.
Iraq is about the theory, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
We want to alleviate the threat of terrorism and create allies in an area of the world that has extremists who hate our way of life.

Why is it so hard for some to believe that oil has nothing to do with the decision to put Saddam out of business . I'm sure you have noticed how few bombings we've had here since we went overy there . Doesn't that tell you something ?
