Can anyone tell me what taxes ACTUALLY pay for our education, roads, conservation of environment, and protection. Also is there direct evidence of what (or who), exactly, the income tax actually goes to?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out (after watching this America: Freedom to Fascism movie), is whether the income tax is really all that necessary (what with all of our basic requirements for government already taken care of with local or state taxes).

If you had asked what the `meaning of life' was I could have answered that. Oh, { I did that last week } This one is harder.
Maybe we should all demand an itemized tax bill. I get one for my property taxes even though I don't agree with it and don't trust their figures.
But, if Federal taxes were itemized, and they showed exactly where our tax money was going , I wouldn't believe them either. The answer is : We need to change our whole Government from Local and State , to Federal [especially]
We have been `Fleeced' for too long'. So, check out RON PAUL

Yes, and everyone who's disputed the legality of the income tax has lost.
What taxes pay for what can be found in the US Budget. It only runs to about a million pages of numbers and graphs, so have fun.
Income taxes all go into the General Fund, which pays the day-to-day expenses of the Federal government.
Various Welfare programs combine as the biggest expense - about 60% of the Federal budget - followed by defense - about 20%, followed by interest on the national debt - about 10%. all other categories add up to less than 10%.

And just where do you get the idea that there is no law? If that's what you think, then please explain what Title 26 of the US Code is -- all 64,000 odd pages of it! If you interned with Treasury at the IRS and came away with the opinion that there was no law, I REALLY want some of that ganja you were tokin' on, Man! That must be some AWESOME SH!T! (But it doesn't change the fact that there IS a law and that Title 26 is it.) Edit: Whoops! Someone's been watching Zeitgeist again! Quick, call Michal Moore! The only antidote for that is more of the same form the other side of the aisle!

Most of those things you mentioned are actually paid for by local government. The money for those items comes from state income tax, sales taxes, and property taxes. Federal income tax goes to the Treasury Department and makes up nearly 60% of all receipts our government takes in, and therefore pays for most everything our federal government pays for, aside from money raised through borrowing.

The government uses the money we invest into SS and writes IOUs.
When the baby boomers retire, whats going to happen? Where is the government going to get the money?
Edit:
"I served on a federal jury 20 years ago to determine the fate of a guy who claimed federal taxes are illegal and that there is no law justifying them. He had not filed a proper return for 2 years. It turns out he was partially correct and federal taxes were started to pay for WW1 but no actual law existed to continue them. The judge was very sympathetic and sentenced him to 5 years in the penitentiary. Somtimes you just have to go with the flow."
You help sentence a guy to prision, who didn't break any laws, and all you can say is "just go with the flow"?

I thought road taxes were paid when we purchase car tags. At least mine have a spot that says 'road' taxes. Education is included in my property tax. I would guess our 'income tax' goes to support our military, NASA, and other government sponsored programs, such as welfare, food stamps.
After thinking some more about your question, isn't our taxes also used to pay the members of congress and the senate? Isn't that why they do not have a problem voting themselves a pay raise every time they feel like it??

Yes, you can look at the omnibus budget that is published each year. It details (in excrutiating detail) exactly where all of the money goes.
The vast majority of your tax dollars go to the Pentagon.
And no, no serious person disputes the legality of the income tax and no, the government does not assert that it pays for our everyday needs.
*This is for Federal tax

Generally people who act on the theory that income taxes are illegal tend to end up in Federal Prisons.

Education comes from property taxes which is why affluent neighborhoods have better funded schools than poor neighborhoods.
Roads come out of state taxes (I believe), as does local protection (I assume you mean police?).
I have no idea about conservation though.
