When it is exposed to more oxygen it turns brighter red but it's not really blue to begin with. Keeping in mind that there is already oxygen in your blood otherwise you'd be dead, so those who say it's blue until it touches oxygen are incorrect.

The blue color is caused by the vein, when blood is outside the body it is in contact with oxygen, and that makes it appear red. Blood in the body may be closer to purple. But thats just me !!!

blood is not blue!
1. it is a dark red
2. it doesn't "turn" red it changes into a lighter color because of the reaction of platelets and the oxygen/carbon dioxide
3. there is two color red blood in the body the dark red is de-oxygenated and the light red is oxygenated
IT IS NOT BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scientifically-
blood travels into the vena cava which makes it exposed to the right atrium the blood in the right atrium is then deposited to the right ventrical through an av valve. this is when your heart "beats" then from the right venticle it travels up a valve into the pulmonary arteries and into the lung. in the lungs the blood picks up oxygen from the capillieries. this turns the blood a light red. it traves back into the pulmonary veins and is deposited in the left atrium. this goes through and av valve into the left ventricle where it goes out of the aorta and is carried to cells and major organs which collects the oxygen ultimatly turning the blood maroon again. and this process is started over. It happens every time your heart beats and i could go into more detail but this is the basics
Congrats here is the cardiovascular system!

Blood is blue in your body because it has no access to the oxygen that we breath in, so when you get a cut or something, there is nothing that prevents blood from combining with oxygen. As the result of that combination our blood turns red!
Hope it helps =)

Blood is red because, oxygen is in it, the lungs get the oxygen by you breathing. Next the heart pumps blood and puts oxygen into it. This turns it into the color red. Next it is sent to your body to fuel it. When all the oxygen is depleted the blood is blue, meaning it has no oxygen. Usually the blood is red when you get cuts is because you usually cut the veins carrying oxygenated blood.

Your blood is bright red in the artery and dark red in veins. You do not have [ blue blood ] . It only appears blue because the veins which are white are are carrying dark red blood and being viewed through the skin which difuses the light and makes them appear blue.

um, blood is red on the inside of your body. Has nothing to do with oxygen. When you take it out with a needle, I'm pretty sure there is no oxygen and it is still red. It is the color of the veins.

blood is not necessarily blue inside the body. it's sometimes a little darker and thats coz of its combination. hemoglobin when combines with oxygen results in red tint and when is out of oxygen= combines with CO2 results in darker tint. it could be either outside the body and inside the body
