Yes, whether you call it an oath or an affirmation, they still have to swear to tell the truth. Our courts do not use a Bible and do not swear to tell the truth "so help me God." Our judges say: "Do you swear the testimony you are about to give is true, under penalty of perjury."

No, they make an affirmation. So do members of a few Christian sects that have a religious objection to oaths for secular matters.
