they said its 1,100 dollars because they gotta take apart the engine. then another company said 900 dollars. but the price they asking for i could get a whole new engine...

Parts about 1/3 of bill the rest labor sounds a bout right get another estimate if you think to much? don't deal with Dealership the are high.
Find shop say with in 25 miles of home so you check up on progrees, to all you stated about 4 days work.. not saying all day 25 hours probably...

I'd do it for around $300.00 it's a 86 model not a 96!! Save your money and invest in another vehicle Thats a da.. rip

Do you need a belt or a chain? My Saab broke a belt out of state and the mechanic fixed it fir $75.00. $1100.00 sounds like your mechanic needs to make his boat payment

wow ...i'd change the timing chain for that much...but to answer your question yes that is a lot....you could probably have it done for around 100-150 bucks if you get the right (honest)person/mechanic

You could probably buy a newer car for that much. It is way to much, hell you can probably go to the dealership for less than that.
