there are seven recognizable colors. I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones taught in school.

Since you spelled "coloures" and not "colors," you have to be aware that color is a function of culture and language.

This is a standard psychological experiment- get some cards that are red, reddish-orange, orange, yellow-orange and yellow. Show them to people from different cultures and/or who speak different languages. You'll get different responses. Some people don't "see" orange, only red and yellow. At some point, reddish orange is red; at another it's yellow. Depending on where you became accultured, you'll see or not see orange.

I'd agree with the "infinite" number of colors. Or coloures, LOL.

Technically, there would be all the colors of the visible spectrum, which is a lot. The main colors have been described above via the mnemonic ROYGBIV.
