Start by ordering a rolling frame from J&P CYCLES or another frame builer site.
Then get a Hayabusa Motor from E Bay or local in your area.
You can even buy a wrecked Hayabusa and start from there.

Recently there was another one of the motorcycle buildoff shows that featured sport bikes instead of cruisers. It might have been on ESPN. I don't remember. The builders put a lot of money into the bikes and I was not really impressed. The either added a lot of bling and the bike was ugly or they added so much horespower they bike was basically unrideable.
Go to your local Honda, Kawi, Yamaha, or Suzuki dealer. For just over $10K they will put you in a bike that is way fast than anyone needs. If you really want to stand out, change the reals or maybe get a classy mural airbrushed on the tank. Get your helmet custom painted to match.

You will spend alot and then some more! you would be best off starting with a basic bike and upgrading the suspension and tires. possibly the engine and maybe customizing the bodywork. There are a lot of options out there for parts. it really depends what you want to do. when you "build' a bike you assemble it for a purpose. a race bike is different then a stunt bike. a drag race bike is different from a canyon carver. they would all be put together using different parts. over and above parts, you will need tools. they also don't come cheap.incompetent assembly can get you KILLED.learn all you can about maintaining a bike I've been working on them over 30 years and would definitely think twice before I tried to build a sport bike. from the ground up. I know I couldn't do it for less then a new japanese 600-750.

Build a decent sportbike from scratch? I think to invent a brand new bike, manufacturing every part from raw materials, that would equal something you could just go buy would easily cost $10 million, maybe as much as $50 million. WHy do you think Harley just keeps putting the same engine on diffrent frames for the last 70 years?
If you wanna just buy generic parts from junkyards I would guess $30,000 if you are paying a mechanic to do it, remodel always costs more in the long run than buying new. If you want something as good as a bike you could just go buy. Probably more if you want to turn heads.

The only problem with building a motorcycle is no insurance company will want to insure it. Good luck though.
Go all out, get a tig welder and build it out of aluminum. Put a turbo kit on a 750 gixer motor and you'll have all the power you'll ever need. Copy the design of a bike that fits you. I'd budget 5,000-8,000 or so for parts and materials. Ebay would be the way to go. Or you can buy a faster bike. I like the buell firebolt xb12r and the triumph speed triple and daytona. My first bike was a 79 suzuki gs550e that was older than me.

It'll cost more to build than to buy one of those cheap pieces of crapola. Just go waste your money on another one
