If there are any, they probably aren't legal. It's illegal to reproduce a book in electronic or paper format without the author's permission, and I doubt the author would allow her book to be made available for free online. Aside from the Stephen Kings and JK Rowlings of the universe, writers really don't make much money...asking them to allow their product to be made available for free (aside from the library, which has purchased the books, they're not freebies) is kinda wrong.

The first person doesn't know what they're talking about. Tons of older books have become public domain and are readily available online. http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page There's a place, for instance. You could also try www.fictionpress.com for some original stories written by unpublished authors.

There are free sites for books whose copyrights have expired like gutenberg.org A recent book, that has a copyright requires a payment to read unless you take it out of your public library. You might also see if Amazon or barnesandnoble.com has an inexpensive copy to purchase

If it's a newer book, chances are it'll be tough to find online. And if you find it, it's probably there illegally. There are sites where you can read classics online for free, such as http://www.gutenberg.org but that is legal due to copyright laws of deceased authors (I believe).

Free "in copyright" eBooks at New Free Books. But I don't know about your title.

You may have to go to your local library if it isn't on Books Online.
