Government secrecy, media conglomerates and an apathetic public all prevent us from knowing the truth about America. Granted there are some things, our government needs to keep secret as matters of National Security, but who meets with the President and Vice President to discuss our US Energy Policy is not one of them. The White House Guest Log, is not one of them. And Bush's use of "signing statements" to decide which laws he would or wouldn't enforce. This administration has been nothing but secretive and obstructionistic to those looking for answers. Then there's our Media Conglomerates which are all owned by huge corporations. ABC is owned by Disney, CBS is owned by Viacomm, NBC is owned by General Electric, FOX is owned by NewsCorp. and CNN is owned by Turner Broadcasting. Will we ever hear a negative story about Republicans on FOX? Will we ever hear a negative story about Democrats on CNN? If Disney violates workers rights, will we ever hear about it on ABC? If Viacomm owns or invests in a pharmaceutical company that's latest drug is killing people, will we hear about it on CBS? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding NO! We need to break up the concentration of these media conglomerates who keep acquiring more and more of our media outlets removing every bit of objectivity and relativity they once had. Finally, we must get the public involved in our political processes once again. I think a good place to start is campaign finance reform. No one's vote should count any more than the next persons. But with Corporations hiring lobbyists and the influx of money from PACs and special interest groups, our government officials have become too dependent on their money and as a result have stopped working for the Majority of the people and started working for the minority rich. The American people see this and are frustrated by it. The solution, make all elections publicly funded with the maximum donation from any one individual being $500. No more corporate subsidies (aka corporate welfare) , and no more lobbyists, PACs, or special interest groups donating to candidates. Let's stop trading "favors" for campaign contributions, let's get the power back in the hands of the PEOPLE, let's get the people INVOLVED in our political process, let's take the secrecy OUT of our government and let's put our government back to work for US!

There is also a "cause effect" pseudo relationship going on. News channels will claim that they only show news of certain topics because showing those topics increases viewership (which is therefore construed as people are interested in those topics) however people continue to watch those topics because news casters continue to show them. It's a sick cycle of missed information and overblown stories while some real issues get ignored.

Yes, it is called advertising. The stories that get people's attention sell. Murder, death, kidnapping, crime, war, those get peoples' attention. Child abuse only does when it involves one of the previously mentioned condition. Abuse that ends in death gets media attention. The media will sell the comercial slots for a higher fare during those stories.

Us. Because the TRUTH is, most of us can't handle it. So we "pass the Buck" on to our elected "Authorities"- and blame THEM for the Mess the Country's in. It's JUST that simple... :(
