How do you stop wanting something you'll never have?

Question

For example, if you want a Porsche, but you'll never have enough money to get one, how can you make yourself stop wanting it? Is it possible to rid yourself of the desire for that Porsche?
The Porsche is just an example. You can talk about whatever. :)

Start Wanting something else

Never stop wanting it just gives you something to strive for. Just start moving towards your goal. Buy an affordable car and then one a little bit more and then eventually you will have your Porsche. It will not happen over night. But it is good to want things just be patient and work towards a goal and you can have it

Just make it a goal to only achieve the acheiveable

You'll end up forgetting about it eventually. In my case, I just find new things to start wanting.

Set your site realistically and realize that wanting something you will never have is time wasted. You could be working on something attainable.
