The red leaves form because of controled temperatures and lighting.

Poinsettias bloom in response to shortening daylight hours. If you wish to coax your poinsettia to bloom in time for the holidays, you will need to put the plant in total darkness for at least twelve hours (fourteen is better) each night for approximately ten weeks (this also applies to forcing Christmas Cacti to bloom). Late September or early October is a good time to begin this regimen. You can place your plant inside a box, a cupboard, or a closet to achieve complete darkness. Be sure to bring your plant out during the day and place it in a bright, sunny spot. After it flowers, gradually decrease the water until the bracts all drop, then allow the plant to dry out completely (like many of the euphorbias, this is a desert plant). Store in a place with cooler temperatures (50 degrees); remember we are trying to recreate a Mexican Winter, so a 50 degree basement or garage makes a fine location.

You need to keep them in a closet for a while for the red leaves to show up. The real color of the leaves is red, and they have a green chlorophyll coating. The chlorophyll has to die on the leaf for it to turn red.
(I've never actually done it. I think it's too much work for a plant that doesn't really do anything.)

first, those red leaves are really not leaves at all, but are called bracts. The true bloom of the flower is the yellow part in the center. They need short days and long nights to bloom. The poinsettias in my greenhouse bloom naturally in January, but they can be forced to bloom in December by keeping them in the dark for longer and longer periods starting in September. You must not allow any artificial light to fall on them during this period.

Poinsettia plants must be kept in the darkness for about 12 hours a day for several weeks in order to develop the red leaves. These means total darkness - in a closet. They do make a nice green plant for year round, but it's a lot of trouble to get them to turn.

The Red flower has not bloom yet. The leaves last longer and come up faster.

your plant has to go dormant in order to get the red leaves.this means putting it in low light .it will loose its leaves and then you put it in a well lit area.it will regrow with red leaves. I have done it.

Well first, you should get rid of your "point setta" and get a poinsettia. But seriously, the flowers might not be in bloom yet.

uh... it's poinsetta, not point setta. and that just means it's aging. its actually a sign you are taking GOOD care of it! unless its wilting, then it is time to get a new one. hope i helped!

they arent painted. it is very hard to get pointsettas to folwer again. you need to give it colder temperatures. try your best. some people keep them anyway, but others buy new ones.
