There are shallow burrows with upraised grass, and the ground is soft.They are all close together.

get rid of the bugs and grubs in the yard and what ever was digging it up will look for food else where. .moles did a number in my backyard

You need to go to a hardware store or Lowes or Home Depot and get some mole and gopher poison.
With a small spade lift the ground exposing the tunnel. With a long handled spoon put poison in the tunnel as far back as you can reach on both sides. Then replace the part you lifted.

It sounds like you have a mole. You can buy traps or poison at most garden center. If you can live with the mole for a bit, it will move on to greener pastures once it has eaten the bugs and grubs in your soil, you see moles are helpful in the long run.

Moles take a carrot put bubble gum on the end.dig shallow hole and stick the carrot in.
