Perception is an illusion created within. Its association with sympathy and empathy is a function of the perceivers experiences and connection with the inner emotions.

I think it's the other way around, and that sympathy and empathy will influence your perception. I tend to be extremely empathetic, where I literally feel for others what they might be feeling. Because of this, I tend to perceive people in such a manner that I try to understand where they are coming from and what might be affecting whatever it is I'm perceiving at that moment. For example, while some people may perceive the guy who cut them off in traffic to be a jerk, I consider the myriad of things that might cause him to cut me off... he could be racing to the hospital because his wife is giving birth, he could REALLY need to go to the bathroom, maybe he's distracted with a serious personal problem, etc, etc, etc. My point is that we never know the full circumstances behind any situation, so I try to integrate what I actually know along with what I don't know when perceiving any situation. I think being empatheic helps me to do so.

It is definately a perception issue on whether you feel empathy, or sympathy toward someone or something!! Empathy=understanding though not expierencing the same, Sympathy= understanding because of expierence of the same! Both are needed attimes of sorrow!! And greatly appreciated be the reciever!!

It's really all how a person sees it. It can be very differently for any two persons. Culture would likely play into effect as well. Values, environment, biological factors, peer pressure, psychological states.... Keep an open mind. Not too many things are absolute. That leave a lot of room.
