I have no idea who those people are that you mentioned, but there are plenty of sad rock songs ("heart shaped box" by Nirvana, "Do you believe in Love" by Duran Duran, "Time after Time" by Cyndi Lauper, "Yesterday" by the Beatles, "Verdi Cries" by 10,000 Maniacs, "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Belfast Child" by Simple Minds, "Stoli" by Penelope Houston (ex-Avengers), "Cradle to the Grave" by the Subhumans, etc.

hmm try dashboard confessionals old cd.....the places you have come to fear the most...
i guess u could call it "emo" but its not about slicing ur wrist it just has some really wonderful accoustic songs that are sad...kind of in a remorseful tone...
i love it! but give dashboard confessionals a try!

dude, you want straight up good alternative, probably the best band up to date, this band gets compared to led zeppelin, and ruhs, look up Coheed and Cambria, mainly from the first album, they follow a story, all their albums are chapters ina story that is some what dark and sad, but very good. lyrics help through everything. look them up, look up songs in the album of SSTB and In keeping secrets of silent earth 3. amazing stuff
