I have actually contacted Microsoft about one using Microsoft name, they were not interested. They stated they had enough information already.

Most all of this sort of fradulant e-mail activity originates from Nigeria, where the laws are weak and the authorities are easily bribed. Little can be done to prevent it.

To be quite honest, for a poor country such as Nigeria, these internet scams are a major source of "hard-currency"(US dollar, UK pound etc) for their local economy. The officials there simply "look the other way"

About the best one can do is scambait the b@$^@#ds and have some fun in the process.

"So what is scambaiting? Well, put simply, you enter into a dialogue with scammers, simply to waste their time and resources. Whilst you are doing this, you will be helping to keep the scammers away from real potential victims and screwing around with the minds of deserving thieves."

"It doesn't matter if you are new to this sport or a hardened veteran; if you are wasting the time of a scammer, or frustrating them in any way well that's good enough for us, and we would welcome you to join with our now very large community."

Only by changing your primary email address.

Do NOT use your primary email address on any online form. Always use one from Yahoo, Hotmail or G-mail and check it once a month to empty the mailbox.

Save your primary email address for email you know will not generate spam.

Also check your spam settings. There should be an option to block that address when you identify it as spam. Also much of that mail that people forward so often because it is neat is embedded with cookies giving your e mail address to advertisers upon opening it. That's why you should look at original source not who forwarded it.

Yes, don't ever open and they should stop. If you open scams, depending on who sent them, along with the technology that they are using, they may have you IP address and also the ability to know when you open their scam emails.

Most spam should be delivered to your spam box (Yahoo! email).
Don't reply to them, and turn off HTML images (options/block images in Yahoo! email).
Don't advertise your email address (on message boards, etc) where spammers can easily harvest them.
Once the spammers get your email address, you'll always receive some spam. All you can really do is try to minimize it.

Select spam instead of delete. You'll never get anything from that address again. The problem is that they always come from different addresses so you are constantly having to report them as spam.

usually you can unsubscribe to these emails.
this option is located at the bottom of the message.
putting your email address in on certain websites
gives other sites open season to your inbox.
be wise next time you sign up for something.
