When I put water in my car's radiator, there is brown rusty mud that comes out the top where I put the water in. Does anyone know what this could be?

Someone may have put in plain water which causes rust. The system should be flushed out every 2 years, after the car is 4 or 5 years old. I assume this is a used car 1999 or older?? If you don't know how to do this then go to a garage to have it done. Don't put in plain water- use a 50% solution of Prestone Anti-freeze which will protect from rust & sludge.

"Radiator needs to be Replaced!!" First Time I've Ever Heard that Brown Mud!! Replace the Thermostat! If it's Really that Bad the Water Pump Might Be Gone or Going Fast, replace!! Complete Cooling System needs to be Flushed/Boiled Out ASAP!! Replace All Hoses. "50-50 Clean Water & Anti-Freeze Mixture for Coolant Replacement!"

Rust.......and you got problems.

HOW FOR WHAT IS NEEDED, THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY FLUSHED OUT AND I MEAN COMPLETELY, THE RADIATOR THE HEATER CORE, THE HOSES, THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND ANY OTHER PARTS THAT LOOK BAD OR HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON THEM LIKE THE HOSES.

FLUSH OUT THE SYSTEM MANUALLY AND DON'T USE ANY TYPE OF POWER FLUSHING, THIS CAN LEAD TO OTHER PROBLEMS NOW OR AT A LATER DATE.

take off the radiato cap, turn on the heater, let the whothin warm up, open the drain on the bottom of the radiator, and stick a hose in the top. When it starts to run clean, shut it off, let it drain empty. Fill it with anti-freeze, start it up and wait for it to get hot, then make sure it's full.
