You guys think that the white house controls the US media! It's the exact opposite! I find it really funny when you think that the government is telling Katie Couric to support them, if it was that way, she would have been "secretly executed" by now.

Actually, the Bush admin sends their talking points memo to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh who have decided to support Bush against the best interests of the USA.

Yes, Europe has such a hilarious, cartoon view of what goes on in US government. It's all spies and secret panels and shoes with telephones in them.
We have a government of elected officials, who enact legislation that the public actually has a chance to vote on now and then.
Also, our government can't fall apart every five minutes when some shady back room deal between two parties that hate each other falls apart, thus losing their majority vote in Parlaiment.
The good thing is, I think in Gordon Brown the UK has their first leader with any "balls" (other than Maggie Thatcher - ironic, that one) since Winston Churchill.

No, the media stirs (or even controls) public opinion, which the White House then respectively goes on to...ignore.

Bush is actually a clone of Rupert Murdoch, and Fox News is, quite simply, the most direct source of new you can possibly get.

What this White House controls is access to important information that your American public has the right to know about, but which this admistration wants kept secret. Since they control said access, truly they do control the media in a sense.

I think it is the conclusion we get from our media, lol.

Though I have seen it discussed to hell on various US and UK forums so it's not just us Brits who think that. Personally the media play too much a big part in politics.

People should not discuss that about which they have no understanding.

I think that foreigners are so accustomed to thier governments controling and censoring the media, they feel that the same must happen here too. If they only could see the true venom and vitriol towards the president that our press spits out, they may change thier tune.
