Because it stretches out the skin around the eyes. Go ahead, and try it, you'll see. You need your eyelashes to be extended as much as possible so it won't get on your skin.

The same reasoning is why we open our mouths to put contacts on our eyes. We need to stretch out the eyes as much as possible to make it easier to put contacts on.

I always put my mascara on with my mouth closed.

When you open your mouth it relaxes the eye muscle which makes it possible to put on your mascara without blinking.

i dont understand the respond however the different day i found out that i DONT open my mouth when I placed on mascara (or eyeliner for that count) and that i dont understand why i dont cuz all people else does... weeeeeeeeird!

HA HA HA !!! That is SO funny! I've wondered this myself, as I catch myself making all kinds of weird faces when doing this. Probably for the same reason we see kids concentrating with their tongue gyrating all over. It's one of those divinely human quirks.....

I don't wear mascara so that question doesn't apply to me. I can't wear it because it irritates my eyes and causes them to itch and burn.
