Pick him up. Maybe he wants to be held or needs his diaper changed or is hungry.

If your good with babies, you can get the hang of it pretty quickly. Try different things depending on the baby, and try to figure out what's going on from it's point of view, not only yours. If it's crying nonstop for a while, it might be colliky or sick, so probubly take it to the Dr.

General Tips:

1. Pick it up whith it's favorite toy or blanket and bounce it gently or rock it while standing up near a window, in a darkened room.

2. Make sure there is a small light scource, like a lighted halway, or half open closet

3. Make sure the room is warm/cool enough

4. Sing quietly to the baby

5. And Talk to it and have a conversation, even if the baby doesn't talk

6. Give it i'ts bottle, if it doens't want it, try again later, but don't insist,, Babies know when they want their bottle, so if they reject it, it means their not hungry, or their insides aren't feeling very nice.

7) Try to avoid sudden movements or anything that could make a sudden light come on, or a sudden noise

If it's bawling and throughing a tantrum, (doesn't want to be held, doen't want bottle, doesn't want blanky etc) and the baby is too young to talk, it could be any of these problems:

a) over tired
b) colic
c) sometimes babies can't get to sleep because of bad headaches due to poor eye sight. If your baby has a wandering eye, or is cross eyed even slightly, this could be the case

If the Baby is just whimpering because it doesn't want to go to bed:

a) Follow general steps 1-7
b)Leave it in the crib until it goes to sleep. If it is just fussing, more than likely it is just not wanting a nap or bed right then, so leaving it in the crib is not a bad idea

What you don't want to do is teach the child that, if it cries, it get's out of the nap or bed time. The habit lasts for a very long time, once you've tought the child the wrong way.

Probubly the best thing to do when attempting to soothe a baby is to always use a soft, quiet voice. Never raise your voice at the child, or shake it to stop crying. It will probubly just cry harder.

Helpful Hints:

When Trying to Soothe babies:

a)keep other children out, unless they are quiet and garunteed not to make any sudden movements,
b) Sometimes, if the child is attachted to another child, haveing that child in the room with you could help.
c)Total darkness may scare the child
d) Always, if the baby does not stop crying within a reasonalbe amount of time, call a Dr. There might be something going on that you can not know or see.

Remember:

SSQBB

(Slow Soothing Quiet Bounce Blanky)

If you keep those things in your mind, your baby should fall asleep.

And Lastly,

Prevention

To prevent crying at nap or bed time:

a) tire the child out before bed
b) don't allow cat naps between naps or bed time
c) suger before bed---NO
d) Begin quiet time at least 10 minutes befor the actuall bed time, so that there is a transistion time, not just a sudden change from play to bed.

Hope these things Help!

There are many ways, but really depends on the reason why the baby is crying. Mothers have a sense of what is wrong, it develops in time, but you'll get accustomed to the different kinds of cries. There's a hungry cry, the wet diaper cry, the I'm tired cry, the too much noise cry, i'm bored cry, etc. So depending on what the baby is telling you, you can act accordingly. This probably doesn't help at this moment but you really didn't elaborate on the circumstance around the baby crying. You can try one solution at a time - change the diaper, feed, sing, soothe, give a bath, etc. until you find the solution. It's a lot of work but sometimes until you learn the different cries, it's really a process of elimination. Also, don't forget that babies pick up on the emotions/moods around him/her. So relax, don't be tense; this could be the reason for the baby crying. Try counting one to 20; breathe in and out deliberately and slowly and feel the tension disappear.

You don't MAKE a baby do anything. You just do your best to meet her needs, both physical and emotional. Is she hungry, wet, too warm or cold, etc? Does she need to be held, rocked, talked to, etc? Babies who are held a lot or carried in a sling tend to cry less. And even if nothing you try works to soothe her, let her cry in the comfort of your arms rather than alone in a crib.

Here are some good ideas -

A baby need constant attention from his mom espically. It smells her when there close and a bond forms. Don;t ignore the crying. It needs to know that you are there more than ever in the begining. The hardest job you will ever have is being a parent. Yet it is the greatest joy that you can imagine. Be patient, it will ALWAYS be worth it. Hope this helps.

Put a cork in its mouth. Ok, im just kidding. Dont do that.

Change it's diaper, rock the baby, play, sing, dance, give a bath, feed...

Sometimes babys just cry.

She may want you just you to pick her up.Maybe she is hungry. She wants someone to play with her from time to time. Take her outside and push her in the stroller. Her diaper maybe wet or dirty.
