My Beardie is a little over 3 months old, and is very active and healthy, but he doesn't like his veggys! If I just leave them in the cage, he wont eat them, so I have to take him out, and gently stroke the side of his mouth untill he opens it, then I shove some carrots, peppers, or carrot tops into his mouth. Once their in his mouth, he will normaly eat them, but its really a hassel to do that 3 times a week! Any suggestions?
Thanks

You don't have to force your baby to eat veggies. But make sure they are always available to him, every day.

As a baby, most of his diet is protein (crickets, roaches, silkworms, phoenix worms, NOT mealworms) which he should be getting 3 times a day as many as he can eat in about 15 minutes.

To entice him to eat veggies, you can hold the veggies in front of him and wiggle them around so they resemble live prey.

Pinkies aren't really recommended for any age beardies except for egg-laying females.

Your dragon is a little too young for pinkies. Save that for when he's closer to sub adult size. My beardie was eating veggies just fine at that age when I got him, but abruptly stopped soon after I brought him home. Oddly enough, a change in the brand of UV bulb I had on him did the trick. I now use a reptiglo bulb and he's wolfed his veggies down like a champ ever since. I really don't know what the difference was with the bulbs, but that's what did it. The veggies I feed are just a fancy frozen veggie mix from the grocery store. It has finely chopped carrots, peas, green beans, lima beans, and corn in it. Try feeding your beardie finely chopped romane (NEVER ICEBURG!) lettuce along with his veggies. They seem to take this almost as a treat, and if the lettuce is on top of the veggies, they'll eat some veggies with it. Good luck!

they like fruit and veggies equally, as a baby they don't eat to many veggies they should eat 80% meat and 20% veggies so as a baby if they don't eat their veggies its fine, eventually they will. the only thing u can do is to gut load the crickets and mealworms with the veggies you would feed him and then he will be getting the same stuff in 1!

Make sure you leave fresh geens available at all times. This means things like collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greeens. Do not feed spinach or iceburg lettuce.

You can put a few crickets onto the greens to entice your beardie to try them out.

I agree with the other poster. Visit www.beardeddragon.org for great info on care, feeding, enclosures, etc. I've learned a lot there!

3 month is too young to be feeding it veggies. Try again from at least 6 months. He is still young and it's body needs the protein from live food like crickets etc so that its body develops quicker. Don't worry too much for now as I just left the greens in a dish and was their if and when he was interested to eat them.

get some dried crickets, and sprinkle the veggies. Or get some canned worms, and give him a couple of those with his veggies. They also like live crickets, and pinkie mice.
