I just recently switched from kaspersky internet security to avira free personal edition.was having and still are problems with web pages timing out, yahoo messenger still works and sometimes email does while web down.Normally in past when web pages didnt access,I didnt have messenger or email functioning either, this is first time of the opposite.could access problems be caused by conflict somewhere between windows reading both antivirus protectors somehow,I see in the registry that there are still kaspersky still with files, etc in there.I did do a full install of kaspersky before installing avira, could there be a conflict with the two somewhere and possibly with 2 firewalls going? causing me to not be allowed to access sites or is problem with router as my son is also affected when iam,he normally doesnt get affected by me if iam not able to access the web but now he cant when i cant.

Your first problem is that you have two antivirus program running and this causes serious conflict with your system.

You really should go to start, run and type in regedit and click "OK", and your registry will open. Now click on HKEY Current USER, and open "software", and look down the list of programs for Kaspersky and remove the associated keys. (Take great care not to remove keys not related to Kaspersky or you will have more trouble).

Now go to start search and type in: Kaspersky and let your PC search for any an all files related to Kaspersky, delete from top to bottom. If any say in use, or write protected, reboot and try again. They usually will remove. The write protected files required free software. You can ctc., me for the free software link and how to delete a write protected file.

Hard to tell what's going on 'cause your explanation is a bit confusing, but generally you don't want to 2 anti-virus programs or 2 software firewalls running at the same time. (And keep in mind that Windows XP/Vista have a built in firewall that usually comes activated by default, which people usually replace with something else.) Firewalls are not the same as anti-virus programs, though a lot of security programs include multiple types of protection in one bundle. You can have a software firewall on the PC and a hardware firewall though. (Hardware firewalls are usually built into routers.)

Having multiple anti-spyware programs running is an entirely different matter. (And from experience Windows Defender and Spybot Search & Destroy Resident seem to have no issues with each other.)

sounds like a mess, i would remove one of the a/v you have to start with. but also sounds like some system file has been removed or you have a bug or two. registry entries will stay there, if all of the program has been removed the entries are harmless. you should an icon if you have a firewall other then windows firewall and that can run even if you have another.
