Two things going on here- whether YA folks like the movie, and the other is you. What difference does it make to you?

FWIW, I read Matheson's "I Am Legend" and saw the movie. The book is more cerebral, though the movie isn't for dullards.

One or two minor differences. In the book, the protagonist is blond not black. He lives in LA, not NY. He doesn't have a dog, but meets one that dies soon. There is a distinction between two classes of vampires; in the movie, the concept of vampirism isn't even mentioned. In the book he gets captured and executed; in the movie he blows himself up with a grenade. In the book, there are no other survivors; in the movie, there are some. In the book, Neville had nothing to do with the plague; in the movie, he was part of it.

Though the screenwriters too a lot of creative liberties, the movie is still very good. I was hooked from the first with the IMAX technology- hunting deer in NYC- the motion and sound were terrific!

Rather than asking what we thought, just go and see it for yourself. If you can get to an IMAX viewing, do it.

Have a great Christmas!!

Nope.
A couple people I know really didn't like it.
A couple others said it was interesting but "don't go if you're squeamish."

I haven't heard anyone I know raving about it.
