Here are the top scoring seasons ever:
1. 1998 Minnesota Vikings (556 points) 34.8 ppg
2. 1983 Washington Redskins (541 points) 33.8 ppg
3. 2000 St. Louis Rams (540 points) 33.8 ppg
4. 1999 St. Louis Rams (526 points) 32.9 ppg
5. 2007 New England Patriots (523 points) 37.4 ppg (on pace for 598 points)
6. 2004 Indianapolis Colts (522 points) 32.8 ppg
7. 1984 Miami Dolphins (513 points) 32.1 ppg

(The 2007 Patriots have only played 14 games thus far while all the others played 16)

Also, the Patriots have scored 67 touchdowns in 14 games, and the NFL record is 70, in 16 games. They need to score 4 touchdowns in two games to break it. I think they can.
The Patriots are also averaging 413.6 ypg, even though they are a cold-weather team!! All the other teams are either warm weather or dome teams!

Alright, ppl, I wasn't asking if they will win the Super Bowl, which they are huge favorites to do anyway, seeing as they have won by an average of 20.8 ppg (best ever) and are undefeated. I was asking if they are the best offensive team ever. All those "who cares?" answers are pointless. Obviously you don't, so why are you answering this question?

They may be the best offense in the Free Agency Era but they are not the best offense or team in NFL history.

Depends on your definition. Stat wise, yes. In reality, if my definition was the offense most likely to score, no.
The Salary Cap era teams are not as tough as the Pre-Salary Cap teams (in general). I would take the '89 49ers. Player for player they are better than the '07 Pats.
Montana over Brady
Rice over Moss
J Taylor over Welker, Stallworth, etc.
B. Jones over Watson
Craig over Maroney, Faulk, etc
Rathman over Evans
OL of the 49ers was better.
Of course the '89 49ers played when the NFL was not mediocre unlike the league the Pats play in.
We can also breakdown the '92 Cowboys and '78 Steelers and the '07 Pats come up short.
FYI: ONLY TEAM #4 won a Super Bowl and just barely.

Ahem....good day Boredat- The Cowboys have been undefeated and known to be the main suitable team contained in the NFC whilst the Patriots clobbered them some weeks in the past. The Redskins had the NFL 5th ranked protection whilst the Pats hung a 50 Burger on them the day previous. sufficient with this "the Pats have an worry-free time table" crap already

They are not.

Many of the points were scored by their defense and as far as I know, defenses generate the opportunities.

I would take any of the 70s Steelers as the best offense ever. Bradshaw, Swann, Stallworth, Harris, Mike Webster...all of them are Hall of Famers.

I'm surprised that none of the 49ers are there. Montana and Rice were the best tandem ever, despite they don't have the records.

No. Best passing offense...probably but they are lacking in the rushing department, so they do not get the best offense nod. That would go to the 80's 49ers or the 90's Cowboys.

You would need both passing and rushing attacks to have the best offense of all time

As JMMZ put it, who cares if they don't win the SuperBowl. The players interviewed on Boston station WEEI get it. Coach Bellichik is the best at keeping players focused. They are the best AS A TEAM. Chill the champagne for February 3d.

They need 4 TD's to break the single-season TD record against MIAMI and the GIANTS and you're sweating it? They're going to get 4 in the first half on Sunday!

Nobody touches '07 Patriots offensively.
