I have an envelope that says "Add extra postage" on it, but I dont plan to send anything that weighs very much, just a small letter and I plan to mail it from Texas to Virginia.

Should I just ignore this or should I add extra postage and how much should I add?

The envelope itself is large enough to need the extra postage. Unless, it used to have a card in it that weighed alot. Either take it to the post office and let them tell you or just put two stamps on it.

Is it a square envelope? Those require more postage because they won't fit through the standard machine (I don't get it either). If you don't add the extra postage then the post office will leave a little envelople to collect the additional charge from who ever you are sending it to.
If it is the square envelope, you'll need an additional 17 cents.

yeah, we get this from time to time at the business I work at. Sometimes they don't base their postage on weight, which they should, but by the actual size of the envelope, etc.
If you want to mail, add the extra postage. 15 cents usally covers it.

Size matters as much as weight. If it's oversized, even if it's practically empty, you have to pay the extra postage.

it is probably oversize for the 41 cent first class rate, or the known weight of rhte card inside is too heavy.

i just stick a 2nd stamp on it and kiss the excess off to the government.
