My kids dad signed his rights over after getting very far behind in child support. The court still ordered him to pay all back support he owed. He paid a little here and there. He stopped again this past year. I called Child Support to get things back on track. He hadn't paid anything since 3-5-07. Then on 11-23-07 he paid only $17.00. I called to see that his "payment" wouldn't stop them from persuing him for non-payment. They said that they would keep persuing him. I made that phone call on 12-3-07. On 12-10-07 I got a letter from them that read as follows:
Status update: Due to Federal laws we can't currently enforce your case anymore. Nor can we release any information about the father as to why we can not enforce your case unless he signs a disclosure statement stating it is ok for us to release this information to you.
What would make them stop making him pay? What Federal Law allows a man to stop paying support and give no reason to the mom as to why? Please help me!!

Noway that he is in winess protection. He has been applying for Disability for the past 7 years. He is also not in prison. He lives in the same small town I live in and words gets around. I have not heard anything serious. I am scared to ask around to why because if he does not know that the case is not being persued anymore he will find out if I start asking questions. If he doesnt know, I may still get a whole 20 bucks every year!! HA HA If he does know...there is no way in hell he will ever pay again!

I agree with the first answer, he could be in witness protection program, OR he could have been arrested, and in currently in federal prison. I would talk to a lawyer, perhaps he can explain other possibilities, and maybe even suggest a new course to take in collecting. If the dad in military, there may be some benefits you are not taking advantage of. Talk to a lawyer...

The only time I've seen a "We can't help you or tell you why we can't" letter like this before was in a case where the deadbeat father went into the Witness Protection Program.

Was your ex involved in any criminal activities?
