The iPod *is* an MP3 player.

I've had a nano and now an iPhone and have loved them both. However, I don't know how this compares to other MP3 players out there. I don't know if the computer software is as easy as iTunes is to operate.

The iPod series is basically the 'God' of all mp3's. The most hated yet most loved. It's really simple to use, simple and easy. Others are, well...are not as easy. And like everything Apple's iPod has it's competition, San Disk, Microsoft and Creative. They are all great in their own ways, but from a consumers point and from what that consumer see's/wants, the iPod is the way to go.

~well there are the same thing, but there is variations...if he would want to be able to watch episodes or movies, or music videos then i would get a "video i-pod". if he is only interested into music then i would get him a regular "i-pod". if you need ot know about memory, then get him the basic 4gig of memory for the "i-pod".
~ the price range is in the 200-up$ range no matter what brand or style you chose.
~good luck and merry Christmas! ^_^*
