Yahoo seems to count it as a run and lists Heinz Wards stats for week 15 as 3 Rec, 27 Rec. Yards, 1 Rec TD, 1 Rush, 4 Rush Yards.
The NFL lists wards week 15 stats as 4 Rec., 31 Rec. Yards
Some websites list ward the way yahoo does, others the way the NFL does. Who is right?
(I won my playoff match by .5, now because of this "correction" (which wasn't made until yesterday) I have now lost by 2.5 points!

No, it's a lateral...anything pass that goes the slightest diagonal backwards is a lateral.

Chino and NKC are right. Remember during the New England game against Baltimore a couple weekends ago, the pass that Brady threw to Moss. Moss dropped it but was able to pick it up because it was a backward pass so it was considered a fumble. If it were a forward pass it would've been an incomplete pass.

By a strict reading of the rules, a "backwards pass" is a lateral, and not a "reception."
The question is, how was the pass to Heinz Ward completed? If it was a lateral or backwards pass, it doesn't count as a completed pass.
You'd have to see the game film to determine whether it was really a "lateral" or not.

A pass backward behind the line of scrimmage is considered to be the same as a hand-off. Any resulting yards are rushing yards.

A backward pass aka lateral is technically a run (even though it looks like a pass), because if the receiver doesn't catch it, it's ruled a fumble.

NFL rules are so confusing even the refs have to have a conference to determine a play....sorry but one question for you. Is that backward play in front or behind the line of scrimmage?

It did this past sunday! The referee called it a "forward pass even though it was thrown backwards" It was dropped and they ruled it as an incomplete pass! What a bunch of crap!
