I can understand (maybe) giving a child a cell phone when they are of driving age...but seriously why, other that because their friends all have one, do people buy their young children cell phones?

I'm a Mother & I can honestly say that I have given my kids cell fones- not as a gift, but as a plight 4 life. How many children disappear evry yr. & end up bing victims of sum sick person's mind nevr 2 b heard from again & finding ur childs body racked w/ stabb wounds, gun shots, &/or have been rapped. Than u think~~ "If only they would of had a way 2 contact some1 b4 it was 2 late?" They can't call or summon help from the nearest tree.
How many parents out there that have given their child a cell fon & thank the very heavens that they did cause it safed their life?~ way 2 many. It takes a responsibl adult 2 want 2 giv their chil(ren) a cell by way of emergencies 2 protect them from life's hard curves.
What would happen if ur child(ren) were hom & the house caught fire & the wires & fon blu out & they were trapped inside & no way 2 reach 4 help? I'll tell u~~ they die from exposure & burn 2 death.
There r so many great reasons 2 give a cell fon to ur children than not that it has bcom an excellent resourse 4 them & the parents 2 ensure their safety. U can monitor what they do on it just like a computer, respect them, they will respect u & c that u love them by wanting 2 keep them safe & alive!

No, I am not giving one as a Christmas gift cause my 9 year old daughter already has one. Why? Cause in this day and age you never know who is going to try and take your child or walk into the school and start shooting. Her phone is for emergencies. Does she use it to talk to friends? No, she can't cause like most phones under options I have set the phone to only receive and make calls to people in her address book - who I entered. And the whole thing is password restricted - so she can't add anyone.

Well, im in 5th grade and i got one this year. BUT, i dont use it for anything but emergencies, i only use it for after school to call my mom to see if she is on her way to pick me up. All my friends use it to talk and send pictures, and i think that is a big waste. I think if it is for emergencies,it fine.I sometimes see 2nd graders with cell phones!

i got my first cell phone
in 6th grade. i used it alot.
im 14 and turning 15 in a few
months and i believe that they are
very useful.
sometimes i missed the bus or needed
to stay after school or needed
something and then all i needed to do
was call up my mom.
it was great because i always felt connected
and was able to communicate and
it made my life so much eaiser than
having to borrow people's phones.
i hope this helps.

GOOD LUCK!
happy holidays!

i've got not began something like that yet yet i could decide to too! you need to start up an ornament series. each and every 365 days get her an ornament that represents something that occurred that 365 days. Then whilst she strikes out on her very own, she'll have a selection of embellishes for her very own tree :) ETA: Yeah my mom use to purchase me those trip Barbies each and every 365 days too. I forgot! LoL.
