best would be a wet saw with a diamond blade. second best would be just a diamond blade if you're not going to be doing a lot of cutting.

Both answer 1 and 2 are correct.

I tile every day of my life and suggest a Diag. Grinder, with a diamond blade. The grinder will be a more versatile tool after the fact.

RAW Slate is actually easier to cut than fired ceramic tile, but since it's basically a composite stone it's also more prone to chipping, flaking, shedding, etc. Obviously caution with any tool should be a prime directive.

you can get a "tile saw" at Depot for about $60 - thats what we did -and yes it's "wet". works great. we put the slate on our porch with it
